Update - Info via Halifax Professional Firefighters
Incident Update – Kennedy Drive, Dartmout
At approximately 2:24 p.m. this afternoon, crews of Halifax Professional Fire Fighters responded to 52 Kennedy Drive in Dartmouth for reports of smoke coming from a residence.
Firefighters were immediately dispatched and arrived on scene within minutes, where they were confronted with a working fire on the first floor, with flames venting from both a window and a door.
The first arriving crew initiated what is known as a transitional attack — briefly directing water through the window or door where flames are venting before entering the structure. This tactic helps knock down the main body of fire, slow its spread, and improve conditions for both firefighters and any potential occupants before crews advance inside to complete extinguishment.
Thankfully, all occupants were able to escape safely and no firefighters were injured. Sadly, it has been reported that a family pet succumbed to smoke inhalation.
The fire occurred in a duplex residence. While the primary unit sustained heavy damage, firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading into the adjacent unit, protecting additional homes and property.
Crews remain on scene conducting overhaul operations to ensure the fire is fully extinguished. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

A fast response and fire attack kept damage from spreading further after a structure fire response to the 50 block of Kennedy Dr in Dartmouth.
The cause of the fire will be investigated as crews begin to clear the scene after performing thorough mop up operations. No injuries reported.
