Police issue warning after sudden deaths
Police are issuing a public safety warning after two sudden deaths in the community.
Over the last 24 hours, police have responded to two sudden deaths and a person found in serious medical distress who was transported to the hospital.
The Nova Scotia Medical Examiner’s Service is conducting autopsies to determine the cause and manner of death in both incidents.
The investigations are in the early stages. In the event that these incidents are determined to be drug-related, the police are reminding the public to be cautious as illicit drugs may contain unknown substances, including highly potent opioids such as fentanyl that can significantly increase the risk of overdose, serious injury, or death.
If you see someone experiencing an overdose, call 911 immediately. Signs of an overdose may include difficulty breathing, unconsciousness, vomiting, blue or grey lips or fingernails, or an inability to wake the person. If available, administer naloxone and follow emergency dispatcher instructions until help arrives.
