**** New Glasgow Police Release New Glasgow Police charge a 65-year-old man with historical sexual offences New Glasgow Police have charged 65-year-old Joseph James (Short) Johnson with ten historical sexual offences dating back more than 30 years. The victim was a child at the time of the offences. In July, New Glasgow Police began an investigation after receiving a report of sexual offences which are alleged to have been committed between 1986-1996. Johnson has been charged with: Incest (one count) Invitation to Sexual Touching (two counts) Sexual Interference (three counts) Sexual Exploitation (two counts) Sexual Assault (two counts). Johnson was released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in Pictou Provincial Court on October 19, 2026. New Glasgow Police recognizes that sexual offences can have a devastating and lifelong impact on victims and can result in feelings of stress, shame and fear.
