At 7:17 PM, #hfxfirefighters responded to an ammonia alarm at the Gerald LeBrun Recreation Centre in Bedford.

Our members from Station 8 initially responded before the call was upgraded to include our Hazmat team. A leak was identified, and the immediate area was isolated. The building was safely evacuated.

Crews secured the scene and monitored air quality until technicians arrived to bleed off the system. Ammonia levels near the source were extremely high—well above survivable limits.

Thanks to the quick work of our members, no injuries were reported.
