Strengthening Our HazMat Response
On Monday, November 10, Station 45 in Fall River was officially added as a Hazardous Materials Technician response station — becoming the third station in HRM with HazMat Technicians assigned. This expansion adds critical depth to our hazardous materials capabilities, ensuring that sustained or complex incidents have the personnel needed to operate effectively, safely, and in line with industry best practices.
To support this growth, 32 of our members successfully completed the Technician-level course throughout October, delivered by our training partners at VIERA. Their commitment and professionalism made it possible to bring Station 45 online as a full HazMat Technician station.
HazMat Technicians are trained to identify, analyze, and mitigate some of the most dangerous incidents we respond to — including chemical, biological, radiological, and physical hazards. Whether they’re conducting advanced air monitoring, stopping leaks, overpacking damaged containers, or making entry into hazardous environments, their work protects our communities, our environment, and our fellow first responders.
This milestone strengthens our team, enhances our operational readiness, and reflects the dedication of the members who step forward to take on this technical, high-risk specialty.
