Shortly before midnight, #hfxfirefighters responded to reports of smoke coming from an apartment inside a four-storey residential building on Kent Street in Halifax’s south end.
Engine 2 (University Avenue) arrived within minutes and confirmed a fire on the third floor with a victim inside. Our members from neighbouring stations arrived moments later and together quickly located and rescued the occupant, who was transferred to the care of Emergency Health Services.
A Metro Transit bus was requested as a precaution for temporary shelter, though thankfully it was not required. Thanks to the quick response and coordinated effort, the fire was contained to the unit of origin with minimal damage. After air quality checks, residents were able to safely return to their homes.
