Police charge man with weapons and drug offences
Police have charged a man with weapons and drug offences after an incident in Halifax on Tuesday morning.
On September 23 at approximately 7:20 a.m., officers responded to a report of an unresponsive man in a vehicle, in the parking lot of the Esso gas station, located at 7151 Chebucto Road in Halifax.
Upon arrival, officers observed the man in the driver’s seat of the vehicle. They knocked on the window to get the man’s attention and gave verbal directions to open the door, but the man did not respond. Officers then gained access through the passenger side door. The man regained consciousness and was assessed by EHS.
After noting evidence of possible alcohol consumption and signs of impairment, officers arrested the man without incident.
During the investigation, officers located and seized a firearm and a quantity of drugs.
Braydon McNeil, 24, appeared in Halifax provincial court yesterday to face charges of:
- Operation of a conveyance while impaired to any degree by alcohol or drugs
- Possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace
- Unsafe storage of a firearm
- Carrying a concealed weapon
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
- Possession of a firearm in a vehicle
- Possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm with ammunition
- Possession of a weapon obtained by crime
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking
Southwest Nova Street Crimes Enforcement Unit arrest multiple people and seize weapons and drugs during search warrant execution
The Southwest Nova Street Crimes Enforcement Unit (SCEU) arrested five people and seized weapons and drugs during a search warrant execution at a residence in Gold River.
On September 22, as part of an ongoing investigation, the Southwest Nova SCEU executed a search warrant at a residence on Gloade Ln. in Gold River.
During the search, RCMP officers seized a variety of items including:
- two replica firearms,
- two crossbows,
- quantities of suspected cocaine, methamphetamines, and other controlled substances,
- a stolen motorcycle,
- 40 cases of contraband tobacco cigarettes totally approximately 8000 cigarettes.
In addition to the stolen motorcycle, three other vehicles were seized as offense related property.
Investigators also worked with the Nova Scotia SPCA to safely remove five dogs as the living conditions for the animals were found to be unfit. RCMP appreciates cooperation with SPCA officers in keeping these dogs safe.
Several RCMP units supported the search, including Lunenburg District RCMP, Nova Scotia RCMP Emergency Response Team, Nova Scotia RCMP Police Dog Services, and Criminal Intelligence Service Nova Scotia (CISNS) from both RCMP and Bridgewater Police Services.
Officer safely arrested five people in the home.
Three of the people who were arrested had first court appearances at Bridgewater Provincial Court on September 23. Ronald Steven Paul, 30, of Halifax, Ronald Lorne Paul, 72, of Bridgewater, and Trevor Lee Hurley, 45, of Pictou, are each charged with nine offences including Possession for the Purposes of Trafficking (three counts) and Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose (two counts). All three were released by the courts on conditions pending future court appearances.
One person was released by police pending a future court appearance.
The fifth person was released without charges.
