**** Via Halifax Professional Firefighters Hazardous Materials Response – Quinpool Road At approximately 10:39 AM, #hfxfirefighters responded with a full hazardous materials response to the Halifax Veterinary Hospital, located at Quinpool Road and Beech Street. Occupants of the single-story strip mall had reported a strange odour and some lightheadedness throughout the building. Our members quickly evacuated the building and conducted a full atmospheric assessment. Inside the operating room, a surgical team was in the middle of a procedure on a young puppy. To protect the puppy and the medical team, our crews made the decision to shelter them safely in place so the surgery could continue uninterrupted. Our crews were able to isolate the incident to a sump pit in the basement. The building was ventilated thoroughly and then our members confirmed that it was safe for everyone to return. We’re also happy to report that “Choco,” the puppy in surgery, came through successfully and is doing well! Thank you to the public for giving us space to work safely on what is a very busy intersection in downtown Halifax, and a special thanks to the team at Halifax Veterinary Hospital for their professionalism and the care they provide for our community’s furry family members.
