Truro Police Service attended 55 Archibald St to assist the Nova Scotia Sheriff Services who were on scene attempting to serve a court ordered eviction notice on the resident

**** Truro Police Release On September 18, 2025, at approximately 1:40 pm, the Truro Police Service attended 55 Archibald St to assist the Nova Scotia Sheriff Services who were on scene attempting to serve a court ordered eviction notice on the resident. The resident was non-compliant with Sheriff Officers and had barricaded the doors to prevent access. There was a strong smell of gasoline coming from inside the home and the Sheriff’s indicated that the resident sprayed gasoline toward them when they attempted to enter the home. Truro Police Service set up containment and attempted to negotiate with the resident. Truro Fire Service and EHS were also on scene to assist. The surrounding streets were closed and the threat was contained to inside the residence. During this time, the resident lit the backdoor area of the home on fire to prevent police from entering and was quickly knocked down by the Truro Fire Service. The male retreated to the basement of the home where he armed himself with a pitchfork and attempted to strike our officers through the basement window. Officers deployed a Conductive Energy Weapon (taser) without success and then deployed a chemical irritant into the basement of the house. Officers continued to negotiate with the resident who eventually exited the home and was safely arrested and taken to hospital. The accused was then held overnight in police custody and will appear in Truro Provincial Court this morning on the following charges: Arson/damage to property 3 x Assault on peace officer Resist arrest
