Third Alarm Structure Fire – Middle Sackville
Shortly after midnight Halifax Professional Fire Fighters were called to a reported structure fire in a four-story apartment building at 119 Hanwell Dr. in Middle Sackville.
Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy smoke and flames and quickly went offensive on the main body of fire. The incident was quickly upgraded to a Third Alarm structure fire.
Halifax Professional Firefighters have been pulled from across the city and are working hard to mitigate the situation.
Firefighters remain on scene and this will be an extended operation.
We ask the public to use caution and avoid the area if possible while crews continue their work.

Update
The mandatory evacuation order for the Hanwell Drive area has been lifted, except for residents of 119 Hanwell Drive.
That building remains unsafe to enter due to extensive damage. Firefighting operations are ongoing at 119 Hanwell Drive and residents are asked to continue avoiding that area.
A reminder that an evacuation centre is open at the Springfield Lake Recreation Centre, 266 Lakeview Avenue, Middle Sackville, to support residents affected by the fire.

Due to the structure fire on Hanwell Drive in Middle Sackville, an evacuation centre will be opened at the Springfield Lake Recreation Centre, 266 Lakeview Avenue, Middle Sackville, to assist any residents impacted by the evacuation.
Red Cross will begin in-person registration will begin at 7 a.m. Residents are still being asked to stay clear of the Hanwell Drive area. Further updates to follow.

Update 3 – Third Alarm Fire – Middle Sackville
Over 180 residents have been safely evacuated with no reported injuries.
An evacuation centre has been opened at the Springfield Lake Recreation Centre (266 Lakeview Avenue, Middle Sackville) to assist those impacted. Red Cross is on site supporting residents.
The scene remains active. Please continue to avoid the Hanwell Drive area.
