Armed and barricaded person taken into custody

On July 9th at approximately 6:50 p.m., officers responded to a report of a barricaded person in a residence on Arlington Avenue in Halifax.

Throughout the night, the man made threats towards police.

Crisis negotiators worked with the man to try to deescalate the situation.

The Emergency Response Team was deployed.

At approximately 7:10 a.m., the man pointed a firearm at police. In response, police shot the man.

A woman, known to the man, was also inside the house.

Police were able to remove her from the residence at approximately 8:30 a.m.. She was treated by EHS for non-life-threatening injuries.

At approximately 8:35 a.m. the man was taken into custody.

The man remains in police custody but has been transported to hospital with serious injuries.

RCMP assisted at the scene this morning.

The investigation is ongoing, and charges are anticipated. Further information will be released when available.

A police presence will remain in the area throughout the day as the investigation continues.

Halifax Regional Police has referred the incident to the Serious Incident Response Team.

This morning, our members were requested by police to standby during an ongoing operation. While we maintained a presence near the scene, our members were not ultimately required.
