RCMP charges driver after hit and run involving child
Lunenburg District RCMP has charged a man involved in a hit and run in New Ross.
On July 5, at approximately 7:20 p.m., Lunenburg District RCMP responded to a report of a hit and run involving a pedestrian on Huckleberry Ln. RCMP officers learned that a Ford F250 struck a child in a beach parking lot and then took off at a high of rate speed.
The child was immediately taken to the New Ross Volunteer Fire Department by a family member for medical treatment and later transported to hospital by EHS with non-life-threatening injuries.
At approximately 8:50 p.m., an RCMP officer located a F250, believed to be the vehicle involved in the hit and run, parked along New Russell Rd. The male driver displayed signs of impairment and was arrested. He was transported to the Chester Detachment where he provided breath samples of 210 mg% and 200 mg%.
Jacob Thomas Walker, 35, of Chester Grant, has been charged with Failure to Stop After Accident and Impaired Operation Causing Bodily Harm.
Walker was remanded into custody and appeared in Bridgewater Provincial Court on July 7.
The investigation is ongoing.

Police have arrested a man for a robbery that occurred on June 30 at the Bank of Montreal, located at 6980 Mumford Road in Halifax.
Today, at approximately 11:20 a.m., the suspect was in a stolen motor vehicle in the 400 block of Windmill Road in Dartmouth. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the suspect refused to stop and continued toward Magazine Hill. Officers did not initially engage in a pursuit but continued to follow at a distance. As the vehicle headed onto Highway 102, into Sackville, officers actively pursued. The pursuit concluded on Beaver Bank Road where the vehicle was stopped.
A 51-year-old man was arrested. Charges are pending.
The operation was conducted by Halifax Regional Police’s Emergency Response Team and Quick Response Unit. RCMP assisted in the pursuit.
