Police charge man with firearm offences
Police have charged a man with attempted murder after an incident in Halifax on Saturday evening.
On July 5 at approximately 10:30 p.m., officers responded to a weapons complaint at a residence on Elmdale Cresent in Halifax. A man was shot at by another man who is known to him. There were no reported physical injuries.
The incident stemmed from an argument that occurred earlier in the day.
Officers arrested the suspect at approximately 2:20 a.m. on July 6 without incident. The investigation is ongoing.
Brandon Robert Brown, 27, is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court today to face charges of:
- Discharge a firearm with intent and endanger life
- Pointing a firearm
- Use a firearm in commission of offence
- Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
- Possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Possession of a firearm contrary to order
- Unsafe storage of a firearm
- Possession of a firearm in a vehicle
- Possession of a firearm-no license/certificate
Antigonish County District RCMP investigates shots fired, charges man after he fled from police
The Antigonish County District RCMP has charged a man with multiple offences and is continuing to investigate after responding to a report of shots fired.
On July 5, at approximately 9:50 p.m., Antigonish County District RCMP responded to a report of shorts fired near a residence on Dunmore Rd. in St. Andrews. Responding officers located shotgun shells at the scene and learned that a black Honda Civic had fled just before they arrived. No injuries were reported to police.
Officers located the suspect vehicle nearby and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The driver did not stop and drove away at a high rate of speed. In the interest of public safety, officers did not pursue the Civic.
Minutes later, the suspect vehicle was observed on Dunmore Rd. by two other responding officers who were in their police vehicles. The officers stopped their vehicles to prevent the Civic, which was approaching from the opposing direction, from continuing on. The driver attempted to drive the Civic between the police vehicles, striking both, and damaging the Civic and the two police vehicles.
Officers safely arrested the driver, 26-year-old Jordan Patrick Naugler of Sherbrooke, and two passengers, a 22-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man, and seized a firearm from the vehicle.
Naugler and the 22-year-old woman suffered minor injuries in the crash and were treated at the scene by EHS. The 22-year-old man did not report injuries. The responding officers were not injured.
Naugler has been charged with:
- Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance (motor vehicle)
- Flight from Peace Officer
- Careless Use of Firearm
- Possession of Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Unauthorized Possession in Motor Vehicle
- Possession Contrary to Order
- Failure to Comply with Probation Order
He was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in Antigonish Provincial Court today, July 7. The two passengers were released without charge.
The investigation is ongoing and is being led by Antigonish County District RCMP.
