Nova Scotia Human Trafficking Unit charges man with sexual offences
The Nova Scotia Human Trafficking Unit (HTU) has charged an Ontario man with sexual offences.
On February 24, the Nova Scotia HTU received a report that a man had forced a woman into the sex trade in 2016. Through the investigation, officers learned the incidents occurred in Nova Scotia over a period of two months and the man now lives in Kingston, Ontario.
On June 22, HTU officers travelled to Kingston and safely arrested Cory Patrick Mackey, 28.
Mackey has been charged with Trafficking in Persons, Procuring Sexual Services, Advertising Sexual Services, Material Benefit from Trafficking in Humans, and Material Benefit from Sexual Services. He appeared in Halifax Provincial Court and was released on conditions. His next appearance is scheduled for July 23.
The investigation is ongoing and is being assisted by Kingston Police.

TrafficKings District RCMP investigates fatal collision
Kings District RCMP is investigating a fatal vehicle crash that occurred in White Rock.
On June 28 at approximately 2:20 a.m., RCMP officers, fire services, and EHS responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash on Ridge Rd. near White Rock Rd. Officers learned that a Kia Rio left the roadway, hit a tree, and came to rest on its side.
A 19-year-old Kentville man, believed to be the driver, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The passenger, also a 19-year-old Kentville man and the only other occupant of the vehicle, was transported to hospital by EHS with serious injuries.
An RCMP collision reconstructionist attended. The investigation is ongoing with support from the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service.
Ridge Rd. from White Rock Rd. to Greenwich Rd. South was closed for several hours but has reopened.
