**** Via Halifax Professional Firefighters Wednesday’s second alarm fire in Herring Cove was a reminder of the risks our members face every time they respond During interior operations, one of our members fell approximately nine feet through a compromised floor. Fortunately, they had previously operated on the lower level and were able to quickly self-extricate after reorienting themselves. As the member fell, their partner attempted to grab them—dislodging their mask in the process, in a high heat and smoke-filled environment. A third member also sustained minor burn injuries. Despite these challenges, all members were able to continue working on scene. Firefighting is dangerous—even with constant training, vigilance, and teamwork, the environment can change in an instant. We’re grateful our members are safe and recovering, and we extend our full support to them—and to all Halifax Professional Fire Fighters who put themselves in harm’s way to protect our communities.
