Over the weekend, Halifax District RCMP responded to two ATV crashes that resulted in serious injuries. We believe alcohol was a factor in both incidents.
With warmer weather approaching, the Nova Scotia RCMP is reminding ATV enthusiasts to make safety a priority:
• Always ride sober. Driving under the influence of alcohol and or drugs is a criminal offence and can lead to serious injuries or death of riders, passengers and bystanders.
• Always wear your safety equipment such as protective clothing, a helmet, gloves and eye protection. A helmet could save your life, not to mention it’s required by law for operators and passengers, even in a side-by-side.
• Have a plan. Tell someone when you are leaving and when you will be back. Avoid riding alone and carry a first aid kit, tow rope, overnight bag, plan for the unknown. Know your route!
