Police Arrest driver for flight from police and weapons possession
**** HRP Media Release Police Arrest driver for flight from police and weapons possession ​ At 11:10 a.m., Halifax Regional Police responded to a suspicious vehicle and possible impaired driver in a parking lot in the 100 block of Kearney Lake Road Halifax.​ Patrol officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle, a gray Jetta.​Officers requested the driver exit the vehicle to provide a breath sample for a Roadside Screening Device.​ The driver immediately took off at a high rate of speed toward Highway 102.​ Officers pursued the Jetta with emergency equipment activated.​ As the Jetta turned onto the ramp to the Highway 102, it crashed into a guardrail.​ Officers conducted a high-risk arrest of the driver.​ Incidental to arrest officers located and seized a loaded handgun in the driver’s possession.​ No one was injured during this incident.​ Officers have seized the Jetta for a search warrant.​ ​ The driver, a 35-year-old male from Halifax will be held for court and is facing the following Criminal charges, firearms offences, flight from Police, and Impaired Driving charges.​ Investigators with the General Investigation Section and Forensic Identification Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division are conducting the investigation which is in the early stages. ​ Investigators are asking anyone with information about this incident to call police at 902-490-5016.​ Anonymous tips can be sent to Crime Stoppers by calling toll-free 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), submitting a secure web tip at www.crimestoppers.ns.ca. ​
