RCMP arrest two men after assault with a weapon in Lower Sackville
RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment has arrested two men following an assault with a weapon involving several youths in Lower Sackville.
On August 24, at approximately 8 p.m., officers responded to a report of an assault involving a weapon in the 700 block of Sackville Dr. Officers learned that a group of youths had been sprayed with a sensory irritant by two men known to them. One man was described as wearing a grey or blue hooded sweatshirt, while the other was wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt and carrying a pink and black bag.
At approximately 8:50 p.m., officers located the two men identified by the victims and arrested them.
An 18-year-old Halifax man was released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court at a later date.
The second man, Jack Steele Stanley, 18, of Halifax, has been charged with:
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
- Assault with a Weapon
- Failure to Comply with Youth Sentence or Disposition (two counts)
- Possession of a Weapon Contrary to Order (three counts).
Stanley was also arrested on an outstanding warrant for failing to appear in court on charges of Theft Under $5,000 and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000.
Stanley is appearing in Dartmouth Provincial Court on August 25.
-Antigonish County District RCMP charges man after arrest in Prince Edward Island
Antigonish County District RCMP has charged a Georgeville man who was arrested in Prince Edward Island following a series of property crimes and driving-related offences in Nova Scotia.
Between July 28 and August 18, Antigonish County District RCMP received multiple reports of thefts from businesses in Aulds Cove, Paqt'nkek First Nation, and the Town of Antigonish involving the same man. Investigators learned that, in addition to multiple reports of shoplifting, the man had repeatedly left gas stations without paying for fuel.
The man was identified as Tristan Deyoung, 24, of Georgeville.
On August 9, an officer in Antigonish observed Deyoung’s vehicle, a Buick Lacrosse, while conducing proactive patrols in Beech Hill. After confirming that Deyoung was driving, the officer attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle did not stop and fled on Hwy. 4. In the interest of public safety, police did not pursue the vehicle.
On August 20, RCMP in Cavendish, Prince Edward Island, located Deyoung at a campground. When officers attempted to arrest him, he fled on foot through a swampy area. He was later safely arrested by PEI’s Queens District RCMP and PEI RCMP Police Dog Services. Officers also seized the Buick.
Deyoung was transported back to Nova Scotia and is charged with a total of 19 offences:
- Flight from Peace Officer
- Dangerous Operation of Conveyance
- Driving while Prohibited (5 counts)
- Theft Under $5000 (5 counts)
- Failure to comply with Probation Order (7 counts)
He had a first court appearance on August 24 at Antigonish Provincial Court. He remains in custody pending future court appearances.
A youth was also charged with property crime offences in connection with these investigations.
