Firefighters responded to reports of a fire in an underground electrical vault near the Scotiabank Centre

**** Via Halifax Professional Firefighters Early this morning, #hfxfirefighters responded to reports of a fire in an underground electrical vault near the Scotiabank Centre in downtown Halifax. Our members arrived to find smoke coming from the vault and worked alongside Nova Scotia Power crews to isolate the electrical hazard, contain the incident and safely mitigate the situation. Power was lost to portions of the downtown area for several hours while crews worked to isolate the issue and make the area safe. Electrical fires present significant hazards for fire fighters, particularly when they occur in underground vaults where access is limited and high-voltage equipment may remain energized. These incidents require a cautious, coordinated response between our members and utility crews. Thanks to the work of everyone involved, the incident was safely brought under control. Power to the area has since been restored.
