**** Truro Police Release On Aug 18, 2026, the Truro Police Service received a report from a person who became victim of a theft scam known as the “jewelry swap." The scam usually involves the suspect using distraction tactics. A victim is approached by someone in a vehicle. Typically the suspect is asking for some type of assistance and once the victim provides assistance, the suspect offers payment in the form of fake jewelry and attempts to put the jewelry on the victim. The unsuspecting victim then has their real jewelry stolen. Incidents like this have been reported in various parts of Canada. The suspects in this investigation are described as two South Asian adults, one male and one female. They were driving a black SUV equipped with two car seats that were occupied.
