SiRT Investigating Serious Injury Sustained During Arrest in Lower Sackville
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) is investigating a serious injury sustained by an adult female during an arrest by RCMP.
Preliminary information suggests:
- On the early evening of July 24, 2026, members of the RCMP responded to a residence in Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia as they became aware a woman was in breach of court orders.
- An adult female was located at the house and arrested for failing to comply with court orders and criminal harassment.
- During the arrest, the woman sustained a serious injury to her arm. She was transported to hospital by EHS.
SiRT is responsible for investigating all matters that involve death, serious injury, sexual assault and intimate partner violence or other matters of a public interest that may have arisen from the actions of any police officer, on or off duty, in Nova Scotia or New Brunswick. Investigations are under the direction and control of an independent civilian director, who has the sole authority to determine if charges should be laid at the conclusion of an investigation. RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment has referred an investigation involving a woman who was injured during an arrest to the Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT).
On July 24, at approximately 4:50 p.m., officers responded to a disturbance in the 100 block of Dickey Dr. Officers learned a woman was breaching conditions ordered by the court. Upon arrival at the home, officers arrested the woman for Failing to Comply and Criminal Harassment. During the arrest, the woman was injured.
The 63-year-old woman was transported to hospital by EHS for a non-life-threatening injury. She’s scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court at a later date.
The matter has been referred to SiRT. SiRT independently investigates all serious incidents which arise from the actions of police in Nova Scotia. There does not have to be an allegation of wrongdoing.
Given the matter is now being investigated by SiRT, the RCMP will respectfully refrain from discussing further details.
