Southwest Nova RCMP Street Crime Enforcement Unit arrests three people
The Southwest Nova RCMP Street Crime Enforcement Unit (SWN SCEU) arrested three people and executed multiple search warrants as part of an ongoing drug trafficking investigation.
During the afternoon of July 20, SWN SCEU conducted a targeted traffic stop involving a Chevrolet Camaro and a Honda Civic on Hwy. 14 near the junction with Hwy. 1 in Windsor. Officers arrested the driver and only occupant of each vehicle as part of the ongoing investigation and seized both vehicles.
Officers then executed search warrants at two homes in Windsor and St. Croix, with support from RCMP Police Dog Services and Bridgewater Police Service. During the searches, officers seized quantities of cocaine and methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, unstamped tobacco, cash, a firearm, and a replica firearm.
A third person was arrested at one of the residences.
Marshall Garwin Burgess, 34, of Newport Station, is charged with five offences under the Criminal Code, the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act, and the Excise Act:
- Possession of a Controlled Substance
- Possess Tobacco in Contravention of the Excise Act
- Possession of Unstamped Tobacco for the Purpose of Trafficking
- Failure to Comply with a Release Order (two counts)
Burgess had a first court appearance at Kentville Provincial Court on July 21 and remains in custody pending future court appearances.
The other two people arrested were released by police pending future court appearances. They will face charges associated to firearms and drug trafficking.
Officers have since executed search warrants on the two vehicles associated to the traffic stops and seized other items that support the charges.
The Criminal Intelligence Service Nova Scotia has also supported the investigation.

-Digby RCMP seeking information about break and enter and theft of ammunition
Digby RCMP is investigating a break and enter at a business in Weymouth and theft of ammunition.
On July 20, officers responded to a report of a break and enter at a store located on Hwy. 1. Officers learned that someone had forced entry through the front door, taken cash from a till, and broken into a locked cabinet containing boxes of ammunition.
The break and enter is believed to have occurred between 8:30 p.m. on July 19 and 6:45 a.m. on July 20.
The stolen boxes of ammunition are believed to be shotgun shells.
The investigation is ongoing.
