Mandatory evacuation
The Province of Nova Scotia’s Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency (HRFE) are continuing to respond to an active wildfire on Mooseland Road and surrounding area, which has grown to 300 hectares and remains out of control.
In order to assist firefighting operations, protect residents and to manage traffic in the area, HRFE has issued a mandatory evacuation of Mooseland Road, from 4315 Mooseland Road to Highway 7. Impacted residents should follow designated evacuation routes and the direction of local authorities.
Evacuation centres
Two evacuation centres have been activated. The evacuation centres will be operated by the Canadian Red Cross and will be open until further notice.
The addresses of the evacuation centres are:
- Musquodoboit Rural High School
- Marine Drive Academy
Road closure
The road closures extend to the evacuation zone.
Firefighting efforts
DNR, HRFE and volunteer fire departments have been fighting the wildfire since yesterday and additional crews are on scene to assist. For safety reasons, firefighting operations will pause overnight and resume at first light tomorrow.
Be prepared

Residents are encouraged to register for hfxALERT, the municipality’s mass notification system to receive urgent and non-urgent public alerts by phone, email or text.
