Wildfire
Just after 7:00 p.m. last night, #hfxfirefighters responded to reports of heavy smoke in the area of Mooseland Road in Jacket Lake.

Fire fighters arrived to find a wildland fire burning in a remote and difficult-to-access area. Due to the time of day, aerial suppression resources from the Department of Natural Resources were unavailable, leaving crews to begin suppression efforts using ground resources. Fire fighters were able to access portions of the fire before being withdrawn from the woods as darkness fell.

This morning, Halifax Professional Fire Fighters have returned to the scene alongside the Department of Natural Resources to assess the extent of the fire and continue containment efforts.
Additional off-duty Halifax Professional Fire Fighters have also been called in to support suppression efforts. Bringing in additional staffing helps ensure this complex incident has the resources it requires while maintaining emergency response coverage for the residents of Halifax Regional Municipality.

We commend the decision to augment the response without reducing the front-line resources protecting our communities.
Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
