Kings District RCMP investigating fatal collision
Kings District RCMP is investigating a fatal collision that occurred in Kingston.
On July 14, at approximately 3 p.m., Kings District RCMP, fire services, and EHS responded to a report of a collision on Hwy. 101. Officers learned that a Kia Rio and a tractor trailer, both travelling westbound, had collided.
The driver of the Rio, a 75-year-old woman from Middleton, and the passenger, a 28-year-old man from Middleton, were pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the truck, a 33-year-old man from Lawrencetown, Annapolis County, was treated at the scene by EHS.
Hwy. 101 was closed for several hours while an RCMP collision reconstructionist attended the location of the collision.
The investigation is ongoing.

RCMP officers recently conducted two traffic stops on Hwy. 104 near Onslow that lead to the seizure of hundreds of thousands of illegal cigarettes and hundreds of pounds of cannabis.
On July 9 at approximately 1 p.m., Nova Scotia RCMP Traffic Services conducted a traffic stop involving a rental van. As a result of the roadside investigation, the driver was arrested for offences under the Cannabis Act. During a search of the vehicle, officers located and seized approximately 400 pounds of cannabis and about 2,000 vapes.
The driver, a 41-year-old man from Toronto, will face charges under the Cannabis Act, the Excise Act, and the Nova Scotia Revenue Act related to the possession of unstamped tobacco. He was released by police and will appear in Truro Provincial Court at a later date.
At approximately 2:50 pm, a Traffic Services officer observed an eastbound pickup truck hauling a trailer. The officer stopped the vehicle to check the driver’s documents. As a result of the roadside investigation, the driver was arrested for an offence under the Excise Act. During a search of the trailer, officers located and seized 70 cases of illegal tobacco containing approximately 700,000 cigarettes.
The driver, a 42 -year-old man from Fredericton, will face charges under the Criminal Code, the Excise Act, and the Nova Scotia Revenue Act related to the possession of unstamped tobacco. He was released by police pending a future court appearance.
Close collaboration and information-sharing with the New Brunswick Department of Justice and Public Safety was an important factor in these investigations.
