RCMP arrest impaired driver following traffic stop for excessive speed
RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment arrested a man for impaired driving after stopping his vehicle for excessive speed.
On June 27, at approximately 9:30 a.m., an RCMP officer conducting proactive patrols on Hwy. 103 near Upper Tantallon observed a vehicle driving at speeds that appeared to be significantly over the posted limit of 110km/h.
Radar confirmed the Subaru Crosstrek was travelling at approximately 149km/h.
The officer safely conducted a traffic stop on the Subaru and noted that the driver, the only occupant of the vehicle, showed signs of impairment by alcohol. The driver provided a roadside breath sample into an approved screening device, which resulted in a “fail.”
The 26-year-old man from Mahone Bay was arrested and transported to the Tantallon RCMP detachment, where he provided additional breath samples registering 110mg% and 100mg%.
He will face charges for impaired driving and was released pending a future court appearance. He was also issued a summary offence ticket under the provincial Motor Vehicle Act for an expired driver’s licence and having open alcohol in the vehicle.

-Kings County District RCMP investigating fatal boating incident
Kings County District RCMP is investigating a fatal boating incident that occurred on Aylesford Lake, Kings County.
On July 1 at approximately 4:45 p.m., RCMP, EHS, fire services, and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) responded to a report that people had been ejected from a boat on Aylesford Lake. Officers learned five men from Kings County were in a boat when two passengers were thrown from the vessel as the surface conditions of the water changed.
One man, a 70-year-old from Aylesford, was located in the water by an uninvolved boater nearby and later pronounced deceased at the scene.
Search efforts are ongoing to locate the other person, a 58-year-old man from Aylesford. JRCC, Valley Ground Search and Rescue, and Civil Air Search and Rescue Association (CASARA) are engaged in addition to the Nova Scotia RCMP Underwater Recovery Team. There will be a significant presence of police and first-responders in the area around Aylesford Lake as this investigation continues.
The three men remaining in the boat had no reported injuries.
The investigation is ongoing.
-Cumberland County District RCMP investigating fatal boating incident
Cumberland County District RCMP is investigating a fatal boating incident that occurred Oak Island in the Northumberland Strait.
On June 30, at approximately 10:40 p.m., RCMP, fire services, and EHS responded to a report of a person ejected from a boat. Officers learned five people were on a boat that ran aground near Oak Island, off the shore of Wallace Bay. One of the passengers, a 24-year-old Wallace man, was thrown from the vessel and had life-threatening injuries.
Fire services transported the man to the wharf in Wallace where he was pronounced deceased.
The operator of the boat, a 19-year-old Wallace Station man, was arrested and has since been released pending further investigation.
