RCMP charges man after firearms incident in Lunenburg County
Lunenburg District RCMP has charged a man following a weapons incident in Lower New Cornwall.
On June 22, at approximately 5:20 p.m., officers responded to a report of a man pointing a firearm at another man known to him at a Riverside Dr. home before fleeing.
The 21-year-old victim was not physically injured.
Officers attended the scene, quickly located the suspect outside the property, and safely arrested him.
On June 23, as part of the ongoing investigation, a search warrant was executed at the Riverside Dr. residence. Officers seized a firearm, ammunition, and an off-highway vehicle.
Kaiden George Retieffe, 19, of Lower New Cornwall, has been charged with:
- Pointing a Firearm
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing Possession is Unauthorized
- Careless Use of a Firearm (two counts)
Retieffe appeared in Bridgewater Provincial Court on June 23 and was released on conditions. His next court date is scheduled for July 22.
The investigation is ongoing.
-Police arrest six people following warrant execution; seize weapons
The Pictou County Integrated Street Crime Enforcement Unit (PCISCEU) arrested six people after executing a firearms-related search warrant in Westville.
Earlier in June, PCISCEU began an investigation after learning about a number of weapons at a residence in the 2100 block of Spring Garden Rd.
On June 23, PCISCEU, with assistance from the RCMP Critical Incident Program, RCMP Police Dog Services, Pictou County District RCMP, Stellarton Police Service, and Westville Police Service, executed a search warrant at the home.
Six individuals were safely arrested at the property.
As a result of the search, officers seized a .22 calibre rifle; a loaded sawed-off 20-gauge shotgun; a starter pistol; two pellet guns; a conducted energy weapon; a large quantity of ammunition; and a 3D printer.
Emily Jessica Barker, 33, of Colchester County; Stephen Grant Wood, 43, of Westville; and Ashley MacKenzie-Wright, 42, of Westville, have been charged with a number of firearms offences, including:
- Unauthorised Possession of a Firearm (two counts)
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Unauthorized (two counts)
- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
- Unlawful Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition (two counts)
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose (two counts)
- Careless Storage of a Firearm or Ammunition
- Unauthorized Possession of Ammunition
- Possession of a Firearm while Knowing its Serial Number Has Been Removed (two counts)
Barker faces additional charges for failure to comply with conditions.
Barker was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Pictou Provincial Court on July 13. Wood and MacKenzie-Wright were released on conditions and are scheduled to appear on July 13 and July 20, respectively.
Two of the three other people who were arrested were released on conditions. One person was released without charge.
The investigation remains ongoing.

-Annapolis District RCMP arrest two men for threats associated to courthouse
Annapolis District RCMP arrested two people related to threats to commit violence at a courthouse after previously seizing multiple firearms associated to an unrelated investigation.
Over the course of an investigation that began on June 18, Annapolis District RCMP officers learned of threats made by two men to take firearms to a courthouse with an intention to cause violence. The comments were reportedly made in April and reported to police in June.
Officers were aware that a search warrant executed in May associated to an unrelated investigation resulted in the seizure of multiple firearms, ammunition, and other weapons from a residence associated to one of the men. There was no evidence that either person had obtained additional firearms following that seizure.
On June 21, officers safely arrested the two men.
Chanse Roger Durling, 41, of Middleton, is charged with Uttering Threats (five counts). He had a first court appearance on June 22 at Annapolis Royal Provincial Court and remains in custody.
The second man was released by police on conditions pending a court appearance scheduled for July 13 at Annapolis Royal Provincial Court.
