Man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant arrested; faces additional charges after truck stolen in Inverness County
RCMP Northeast Traffic Services – Cape Breton has charged a man who was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for parole violations with additional offences after a truck was stolen in Inverness County.
On June 11, at approximately 1:35 p.m., Inverness County District RCMP received a report of a truck that had just been stolen from Middle River. A responding officer observed the black Chevrolet Silverado travelling at a high rate of speed on Hwy. 105 in Baddeck. The officer did not pursue the truck out of concern for public safety.
At approximately 2:15 p.m., an officer with RCMP Northeast Traffic Services – Cape Breton observed the Silverado travelling on Hwy. 105 in Boularderie East. The officer activated their emergency equipment and attempted to stop the vehicle, but the truck fled at a high rate of speed. The officer did not pursue the vehicle out of concern for public safety.
An officer then deployed a spike belt further along Hwy. 105. The Silverado drove over the belt, deflating all four tires. The driver then pulled off the highway onto Hillside Boularderie Rd. and fled on foot. A short time later, the officer located and safely arrested the driver with assistance of multiple witnesses.
The driver was later identified as 29-year-old Dylan Edwards of North Sydney, who was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for parole violations.
Edwards is now facing charges of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Flight from Peace Officer, Obstructing Justice, and Driving While Prohibited related to this incident. He was remanded into custody.

-Update: Major Crime Unit investigation continues as suspicious death in Kings County confirmed to be homicide
The Southwest Nova RCMP Major Crime Unit (SWN MCU) is continuing to investigate as a suspicious death in Greenfield has been confirmed to be a homicide.
On June 11 at approximately 3:50 a.m., Kings District RCMP responded to a report of a deceased man located outside a residence on Peck Meadow Rd. The man’s death was believed to be suspicious and the SWN MCU took carriage of the investigation.
The Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service has determined the manner of death to be homicide.
Officers arrested one person on June 11 in relation to the incident. They were later released without charges.
The information and evidence collected to date indicates the incident was targeted. The investigation is ongoing.
