RCMP charge man with public mischief following false allegations against officers during arrest
RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment (HRD) has charged a man with public mischief after he made false allegations against officers following his arrest.
On January 11, at approximately 3:40 p.m., an officer with the RCMP HRD Traffic Unit was in the 3200 block of Hwy. 2 when they observed a vehicle with tinted windows enter a parking lot. The officer spoke with the driver about the provincial regulations regarding tinted windows and while doing so, observed signs of impairment.
The officer then made a demand for a roadside breath sample, which the driver refused.
Timothy Mathew Reynolds, 43, of Elmsdale, was arrested and charged with Refusal to Comply with a Demand.
Following his arrest, Reynolds filed complaints alleging officers physically and sexually assaulted him.
On January 13, the RCMP requested a review by the Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT), which found no evidence to support the allegations.
On May 26, Reynolds was arrested and charged with Public Mischief, Extortion and Intimidation of a Justice Participant.
He was released and is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court on June 30.

We expect our officers to maintain professionalism to uphold public trust, and we’re committed to supporting employees when they’re unlawfully targeted for properly performing their duties.”

Victoria County District RCMP is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on the Cabot Trail and is seeking information from witnesses.
On May 30, at approximately 7:45 p.m., RCMP officers, fire services, and EHS responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash on the Cabot Trail near Blaze Rd. in Big Intervale.
Officers learned that a white Honda Civic had left the road and hit the ditch. One occupant of the vehicle, a 20-year-old man from South Harbour, was pronounced deceased at the scene. A second occupant was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Several bystanders assisted the two occupants of the vehicle while first responders were on their way to the crash. Officers appreciated their support.
An RCMP collision reconstructionist attended the scene. The Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service is involved in the investigation.
Investigators ask that any witnesses who have not yet spoken with police, and anyone with dashcam footage that shows a white Honda Civic on the Cabot Trail or surrounding roads during the evening of May 30, to contact Victoria County District RCMP at 902-285-2021.
