Crane incident - Dutch Village Road - June 5, 7:30 a.m.
The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents that the construction crane is no longer considered a safety concern and roadways in the Dutch Village Road area have reopened.
Update
At approximately 5 a.m. today, the on-site safety officer with the Province of Nova Scotia’s Department of Labour, Skills and Immigration verified the engineer’s report that the crane has been repaired, allowing roadways in the area to safely reopen.
Residents who evacuated may now return to their homes and businesses effective immediately.
Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency and Halifax Regional Police have concluded their support for this incident and have left the scene.
Registration and evacuation centre
Last night, 18 people from 10 households registered with the Canadian Red Cross at the Beechville Lakeside Timberlea Community Centre, 1492 St. Margarets Bay Road, and needed temporary accommodations. As a result, the community centre was used as an evacuation centre for the night.
As residents are now able return to home, the evacuation centre will close at 9:30 a.m. today.
Halifax Transit operations
Halifax Transit routes affected by this incident have returned to regular service. This includes routes 2, 3, 4, 135, 136, 137 and 138
