**** Via DFO On May 21 in Halifax County, Nova Scotia, fishery officers conducted a large-scale riverside operation to address unauthorized elver harvesting activity, including fishing and possessing elver without the required licences and improper reporting in the Elver Monitoring and Traceability (EMT) application. Fishery officers fulfilled the primary objective of the operation by achieving voluntary compliance with a number of harvesters through education on required licensing, spacing between fishing gear and correct use of the EMT application. Compliance with the Fisheries Act and regulations supports the sustainability of the elver fishery for all harvesters and the conservation of American eel.
