On Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at approximately 1:30 a.m., New Glasgow Police and the New Glasgow Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at the bridge. The fire caused extensive damage to the walking surface of the bridge, resulting in the immediate closure of the bridge to pedestrian traffic. The bridge remains closed while damage assessments continue. Following a preliminary investigation, police determined the fire had been deliberately set. Three youths have been arrested and will face charges of: Arson damage to property The youths were released on conditions pending future appearances in Youth Provincial Court. In accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act, no further information will be released regarding the identities of the accused.
