RCMP investigating shooting in Lake Loon, appealing to public for information
The RCMP/HRP Integrated General Investigation Section is investigating a shooting in Lake Loon and is appealing to the public for information.
On May 19, at approximately 8:50 p.m., RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment, the HRP Canine Unit and EHS responded to a report of an injured man who arrived at a home on Montague Mines Rd. stating he’d been shot.
Upon arrival, officers located the victim, a 41-year-old man of Halifax, in the 100 block of Montague Mines Rd. with a gunshot wound. He was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers learned that the victim had been walking north along Montague Rd., near Lake Loon Rd., when a burgundy SUV approached and shots were fired. The victim then fled into a ditch and went door-to-door seeking assistance.
The investigation is ongoing and is being led by the RCMP/HRP Integrated General Investigation Section.

RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment has arrested three men for impaired driving offences following separate collisions.
On May 18, at approximately 8:15 p.m., officers responded to reports of a heavily damaged SUV with flat tires travelling eastbound on Hwy. 7 in Ecum Secum. Officers were advised the vehicle appeared to have been involved in a collision and was being driven erratically.
Officers located the SUV at a residence along Hwy. 7 and observed a man exit the vehicle carrying an alcoholic beverage and displaying signs of impairment. When he noticed police, the man fled on foot. After a short foot chase, he was arrested for impaired driving. He was also found to be prohibited from driving.
The 34-year-old man of Mount Uniacke was transported to the Sheet Harbour RCMP Detachment, where he was assessed by EHS. He provided two breath samples of 230 mg% and 210 mg%.
He was released from custody and will appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court at a later date.
On May 19, at approximately 6:20 a.m., RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment responded to a report of a hit-and-run collision at the intersection of Hammonds Plains Rd. and Pockwock Rd. in Hammonds Plains. Officers learned that a Lincoln MKS had collided with a Honda Civic. The driver of the Lincoln displayed signs of impairment and offered to pay the Civic driver to leave the scene. The Lincoln was last seen travelling east on Hammonds Plains Rd. toward Bedford.
Officers later located the Lincoln at an address on Equestrian Ln. The driver was identified and provided a breath sample, which resulted in a fail.
The 39-year-old man of Hammonds Plains was transported to the Tantallon RCMP Detachment, where he provided two breath samples registering 250 mg% and 230 mg%.
He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court at a later date.
On May 19, at approximately 10:35 p.m., officers responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash in the 1500 block of Cow Bay Rd., Eastern Passage. While enroute, officers learned the driver and passenger of the vehicle had left the scene.
Upon arrival, officers located a Lexus IS on its side with no one nearby. A separate vehicle arrived on scene and the driver advised police they were there to pick up their friend, who had just crashed their vehicle.
Officers attended the residence of the Lexus owner and located the driver, who displayed signs of impairment and claimed his vehicle had been stolen. The man was arrested for public mischief and impaired driving. He was transported to Cole Harbour RCMP Detachment where he provided two breath samples of 80 mg% and 70 mg%.
The 20-year-old man from Cole Harbour was issued a seven-day driving suspension and will appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court at a later date.
Impaired driving continues to be a leading cause of serious crashes and fatalities. Motorists are reminded that driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs puts everyone on the road at risk.
