RCMP investigate assault, stolen vehicle incident; two charged
RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment has arrested a man and woman after an assault and collision involving a stolen vehicle.
On May 7, at approximately 11:55 a.m., RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment responded to a report of an assault on Poplar Dr. in Cole Harbour. Officers learned a man had been assaulted in his home by a man known to him. The victim reported that the suspect had a handgun and fled the area in a white Ford Edge with another man and a woman.
Police later determined the Ford Edge had been reported stolen out of Cape Breton.
At approximately 12:20 p.m., officers received further information from witnesses confirming that one of the occupants of the vehicle was in possession of a firearm.
At approximately 1 p.m., Halifax Regional Police responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision in the area of Spring Ave. and Clysdale Dr. in Dartmouth. Responding officers identified the stolen Ford Edge from the Cole Harbour incident; it had collided with a Ford Escape. Following the collision, the driver and female passenger from the Edge fled the scene on foot.
A short time later, the passenger was safely arrested. The driver was subsequently located in a river near Josephine Crt. and, with the assistance of Halifax Regional Police, was arrested and escorted to shore.
The driver, Morgan James Matthew Herney, 29, of Halifax Regional Municipality, has been charged with:
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
- Assault
- Uttering Threats
- Resist Arrest
- Failing to Comply with Release Order (three counts)
Herney was also arrested on two outstanding warrants relating to the following charges:
- Resists Arrest
- Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Flight from Police
- Assault (two counts)
- In Committing Assault, Chokes, Suffocates or Strangles (three counts)
- Assault Causing Bodily Harm
- Assault with a Weapon (three counts)
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
- Uttering Threats
- Failing to Comply with Release Order
- Unlawful Confinement
- Theft Under $5000
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
Herney appeared in Halifax Provincial Court on May 8 and was remanded into custody pending a court appearance on May 29.
Trinity Skye Bernard, 26, of Whycocomagh, has been charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000. She was released from custody and will appear in court at a later date.
The investigation is ongoing. At this time, the firearm hasn’t been located.
-RCMP charges Truro Heights man with child luring offences
The Nova Scotia RCMP’s Provincial Internet Child Exploitation Unit has charged a Truro Heights man in relation to a child luring investigation.
In November 2025, investigators began investigating reports that a 28-year-old Nova Scotia man had communicated online with a youth for a sexual purpose, sent gifts, and had attempted to meet with the youth at a Halifax hotel.
On May 7, members of the Provincial Internet Child Exploitation Unit and RCMP Digital Forensic Services, with assistance from Colchester County District RCMP and the RCMP Colchester Community Action Team, executed a search warrant at a residence on Oakwood Dr. in Truro Heights. Electronic evidence was seized.
As a result of the investigation, Brandin James Arsenault has been charged with Luring a Child and Making Sexually Explicit Material Available to a Child.
Arsenault has been released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in Truro Provincial Court on August 5.
