Youth arrested for weapons offenses
Police have charged a youth for robbery and firearm offences following an incident in Halifax last night.
At approximately 8:50 p.m., police responded to a weapons complaint near a transit terminal, located in the 5200 block of Barrington Street in Halifax. It was reported that there were several youths gathered in the area. One allegedly fired a pellet gun at two others and took a victim’s bag. Another youth reportedly sprayed a sensory irritant.
Upon arrival, officers located a group of youth running from the terminal. While with officers, one youth began to flee but was apprehended a short distance away. During the arrest, officers located and seized a pellet gun in the youth’s possession. The bag belonging to one of the victims was also recovered. The suspect believed to have sprayed the sensory irritant was not located.
The victims were treated on scene by EHS for non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation is ongoing.
A 14-year-old youth is scheduled to appear in Halifax youth court today to face charges of:
- Robbery (x2)
- Assault with a weapon (x2)
- Pointing a firearm
- Discharge a restricted weapon
- Possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace
- Carrying a concealed weapon
- Disguise with intent
- Resist arrest
Police investigate vehicle fire
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a vehicle that was located on fire this morning in Dartmouth.
At approximately 7 a.m., Halifax Regional Police and Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency responded to reports of a truck on fire on Highway 107, eastbound near the Exit 12 off ramp at Burnside Drive in Dartmouth.
Witnesses reported seeing a group of people near the vehicle when the fire began. The group was seen leaving the scene and heading towards Bedford in a black Honda Civic. Police are looking to identify and speak to this group.
