SiRT Charges Member of RCMP with Uttering Threats

The Director of the Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) has reasonable grounds to believe that a member of the Baddeck RCMP has committed a criminal offence.
On February 26, 2026, Baddeck RCMP contacted SiRT regarding a report that one of their officers uttered a threat against a female known to them.
Following an investigation, on April 8, 2026, Cst. Rickey Krszwda was charged with uttering threats pursuant to Section 264.1 of the Criminal Code.
Cst. Krszwda will appear in Sydney Provincial Court, 136 Charlotte St., on April 13, 2026, at 9:30am.

SiRT is responsible for investigating all matters that involve death, serious injury, sexual assault and intimate partner violence or other matters of a public interest to be investigated that may have arisen from the actions of any police officer, on or off duty, in Nova Scotia or New Brunswick. Investigations are under the direction and control of an independent civilian director, who has the sole authority to determine if charges should be laid at the conclusion of an investigation. Earlier today, the Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) charged one of our members, Cst. Rickey Krszwda, with uttering threats in relation to an incident involving a woman known to him.
The RCMP takes all allegations of misconduct seriously; our employees are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that not only meets, but exceeds, the rightfully high expectations of Canadians.
Cst. Krszwda is currently on leave. An internal code of conduct investigation has been initiated and is ongoing. Cst. Krszwda’s duty status will be continuously assessed throughout both the court and internal processes.
