Two Rescued in Spryfield Apartment Fire

**** Via Halifax Professional Firefighters Two Rescued in Spryfield Apartment Fire At 9:33 PM last night, #hfxfirefighters responded to reports of a structure fire on Enid Avenue in Spryfield. While en route, multiple reports were received of occupants trapped inside the structure, prompting an immediate second alarm. Crews arrived to a 3-storey apartment building with a working fire on the top floor, rear of the structure. Our members began a coordinated attack — one member deployed a hose line to the rear of the building to knock down the fire while the other members raised a ladder to the upper floor to begin a vent-enter-search (VES). VES is a high-risk, time-critical tactic used to quickly access and search rooms through windows when conditions inside are rapidly deteriorating. It allows fire fighters to isolate and search areas where victims are most likely to be found. During these searches, two victims were located and rescued from the affected unit. As additional crews arrived, operations expanded simultaneously — further hose lines were advanced, additional ladders were placed, and teams continued coordinated fire attack and searches throughout the building. The video shows the work of our members: getting water on the fire and entering through windows to search — actions that directly impact survivability in these situations.
