Police continue to investigate the homicide of Cortrell James Sinclair Thomas
Today marks the first anniversary of the homicide of Cortrell James Sinclair Thomas.
On Monday, March 31, 2025 at approximately 9:00 p.m., police responded to a report of gunshots on Ancona Place in Dartmouth. Officers arrived on scene and located a man who had been shot outside of a residence. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service conducted an autopsy on the victim and confirmed the manner of death to be a homicide.
The Integrated Criminal Investigation Division continues to investigate the case.
Investigators do not believe that this was a random incident and believe there are people who have information that could help solve Cortrell’s homicide. Anyone with information is asked to come forward; even the smallest piece of information could be the key to progressing the investigation into Cortell’s homicide. Cortrell’s case is part of the Nova Scotia Department of Justice Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes Program which offers cash rewards of up to $150,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for specified major unsolved crimes. Callers must contact the Rewards Program at 1-888-710-9090, must provide their name and contact information, and may be called to testify in court. All calls will be recorded. The amount of the award will be based on the investigative value of the information provided.

Homicide of Cortrell Thomas Added to Rewards Program

The Province is offering a reward of up to $150,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for the homicide of 37-year-old Cortrell Thomas.
On March 31, 2025, at about 9 p.m., Halifax Regional Police responded to a report of gunshots on Ancona Place in Dartmouth. Mr. Thomas was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Police say people may have information about this homicide that they have not shared with police.
“If you have any information that can help solve the murder of Mr. Thomas, I urge you to come forward,” said Scott Armstrong, Attorney General and Minister of Justice. “No matter how big or small you think it is, you may have the missing piece that is needed.”
Anyone with information regarding this crime should call the Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes Program at 1-888-710-9090. People who come forward with information must provide their name and contact information and may be called to testify in court. All calls will be recorded.
