RCMP arrests man following traffic hazard and threats to officers
RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment arrested a man for threatening officers while being a traffic hazard on Magazine Hill.
On March 18, at approximately 6 p.m., RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment responded to multiple reports of a man walking into traffic on Magazine Hill. Officers learned the man was reportedly unsteady on his feet, throwing his fists in the air and jumping in front of moving vehicles.
Officers located the man walking north on the shoulder of the Bedford Bypass toward Sackville. The man claimed he was trying to get to New Minas but would not accept a ride. The man became agitated and aggressive with the responding officers and threatened to harm them. A conducted energy weapon was deployed and the man was taken into custody.
The man, 42, from New Minas, was arrested for uttering threats and transported to the Lower Sackville RCMP Detachment. He was later released with a scheduled court appearance at a later date.
-Kings District RCMP recovers stolen property, arrests man
Kings District RCMP executed a search warrant at a residence and recovered stolen property as part of a property crime investigation.
On March 16, Kings District RCMP received a report that a wallet had been stolen from an unlocked vehicle in Canaan. Investigators learned that bank cards from the wallet had been used at several businesses in the area.
Based on video surveillance from area businesses, officers identified a suspect and vehicle associated to the fraudulent use of bank cards.
On March 19, officers executed a search warrant at a residence in New Minas and seized numerous items that will advance the investigation. Among the evidence seized are other items previously reported stolen. The property recovered has been accounted for by the rightful owners, and police are looking forward to ensuring that stolen items are returned.
A 37-year-old New Minas man was arrested for property crime offences and released by police pending a first court appearance. The investigation is ongoing and officers are continuing attempts to identify other people involved.
S/Sgt. Dan Archibald, Kings District RCMP Operations NCO, says that property crime investigations are a priority for police in the county.
“Reports from the public allowed us to gather the evidence needed for a search warrant for this investigation,” says S/Sgt. Archibald. “When we know where and when property crime offences and suspicious activities are taking place, that knowledge allows us to do proactive patrols, target investigations, and sometimes return recovered property to its owners.”
