Update: Police lay obstruction charges in shooting investigation

Five men are facing obstruction charges in connection with a shooting that occurred yesterday.

At 11:06 a.m., police received a report of an injured man located near Wright Avenue and Garland Avenue. When police arrived, they located a 23-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

At approximately 2:50 p.m., an officer was travelling on Burnside Drive, near Wright Avenue, when he observed a vehicle parked on the shoulder of the road. Two men were out of the vehicle and appeared to be looking for something. Police noted three other people in the vehicle, including the victim of the shooting.

The officer approached the vehicle and its occupants and after speaking to them arrested all five men for obstruction of justice.

During a search of the vehicle, a loaded firearm was located and seized. A second loaded firearm was located outside of the vehicle and seized.

The investigation ongoing.

All five men, Adriece Downey (19),  Jai’Mere Downey (23), Jui’Keithen Downey (23), Moreldo Downey(31),  and Jason Downey (56) are scheduled to appear in Dartmouth provincial court today. Each face multiple firearms related charges and obstruct justice charges.
