Police investigate robbery
On January 4 at approximately 11:50 a.m., officers responded to reports of two men with knives in the 2100 block of Gottingen Street in Halifax. Officers located one man on scene who stated the other man threatened him with a knife and demanded money. The man refused and pulled out his own knife, at which time the suspect fled. Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect. The victim was not physically injured.
The investigation is ongoing.
-Police lay robbery charges
On January 4 at approximately 5:10 p.m., officers responded to a robbery that occurred at Walmart, located at 6990 Mumford Road in Halifax. Walmart security reported a man exited the store with stolen merchandise and when confronted by Walmart security, the man assaulted the two security guards.
Upon arrival, officers located Halifax Shopping Centre security who assisted Walmart security and had the suspect restrained. Officers arrested the suspect. A second man was also arrested for assaulting the Halifax Shopping Centre security guards in an effort to free the suspect.
A 36-year-old man is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court at a later date to face robbery and assault charges.
A 44-year-old man is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court at a later date to face assault and obstruct public-peace officer charges.
