Ramp Reopening – Massachusetts Avenue ramp to Robie Street from the MacKay Bridge and Barrington Street

30005The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents that the Massachusetts Avenue ramp connecting traffic from the MacKay Bridge and Barrington Street to Robie Street will reopen by the end of the day on Saturday, Nov. 7.

As a result of extensive collaboration between the municipality and its partners, the ramp is scheduled to reopen nearly three weeks earlier than planned. By adding additional resources and scheduling work concurrently, the contractor was able to accelerate construction progress, allowing the ramp to reopen ahead of schedule.

The municipality thanks residents, businesses and commuters for their patience while this work was underway.

The closure was required to support construction of a new Bayne Street ramp connection from Highway 111 as part of the Windsor Street Exchange project. Once this work is complete, the new connection will provide a more direct route for port traffic travelling from Barrington Street and the MacKay Bridge, helping reduce heavy truck traffic through other areas of the Windsor Street Exchange. The new Bayne Street ramp will also play an important role during future phases of construction by providing an alternate access route to Bayne Street during future construction activities.

The connection is part of broader improvements at the Windsor Street Exchange that are designed to improve traffic flow, support goods movement to and from the Port of Halifax, and enhance the efficiency and resilience of the transportation network.

Traffic impacts within the project area are available through the municipality's interactive Windsor Street Exchange Traffic Impacts Map, helping residents and commuters stay informed and plan ahead.
