Minister’s Labour Day Message: Preventing Workplace Harassment ------------------------------------------------------ NOTE: The following is a statement from Nolan Young, Minister of Labour, Skills and Immigration. ------------------------------------------------------- Labour Day is an opportunity to recognize the contributions of workers across Nova Scotia and to reflect on the importance of safe, healthy and respectful workplaces.
This year also marks an important milestone: one year ago, Nova Scotia’s workplace harassment regulations came into effect, strengthening protections for workers across our province and helping make workplaces safer and more respectful.
Workplace safety is more than preventing physical injuries.
As Minister of Labour, Skills and Immigration, I believe every worker deserves to feel safe at work. No one should have to face bullying, intimidation, threats or other forms of harassment as part of their job. Everyone has the right to be treated with dignity and respect.
Over the past year, employers across Nova Scotia have taken important steps to comply with the regulations by developing harassment prevention policies, providing training and establishing reporting processes that will strengthen workplace cultures.
I want to thank employers, workers, unions, safety representatives and workplace committees for the work they have done to support these changes.
As we mark the first anniversary of these regulations, I am calling on every employer in Nova Scotia to make workplace harassment prevention a priority by ensuring they have a harassment prevention policy in place, that employees are trained on it and that concerns are addressed promptly and appropriately.

As we celebrate workers across our province, let us recommit to creating workplaces where everyone feels safe, supported and respected, and where harassment has no place.
