RCMP warn of HVAC scam

**** Via RCMP

A Middle Sackville resident recently avoided becoming a victim of a potential scam after a man claiming to be an HVAC salesperson knocked on their door and asked to enter the home to determine whether they qualified for a heat pump program.

The resident did the right thing by refusing entry and contacting the company being represented, only to learn that no employees were canvassing the area.

If someone comes to your door offering an unsolicited service, help protect yourself and your home by following these tips:

✅ Check for legitimacy – Ask for company-issued identification and a seller's licence or registration. Verify the person's name and the company they represent.

✅ Be skeptical – Be cautious of anyone who pressures you to make a decision on the spot. Take time to research the seller and their products.

✅ Protect your personal information – Never share personal details or provide copies of bills, financial documents, or statements.

✅ Trust your instincts – Only allow access to your property to people you know and trust.

If something doesn't seem right, don't hesitate to verify the information independently before opening your door or sharing any information.
