Update - Pilot Whale Rescue Success!
**** Update via MARS Update - Pilot Whale Rescue Success! Early yesterday afternoon, we received a call about a small whale repeatedly stranding close to shore in Cow Bay, NS. Photos soon confirmed it was a young female pilot whale in distress. Thanks to quick action from local SUPers and nearby residents, under the guidance of MARS the whale was safely stabilized in shallow water. Despite cold water and challenging rocky terrain, volunteers stayed with the animal for hours, helping us keep her upright and calm. By mid-afternoon, we were able to secure the whale in pontoons and carefully guide her out to deeper water using a jetski, with SUPers helping to monitor closely. At 4:23 pm, she swam free โ€” and after nearly an hour of shoreline scans, the whale was not observed again. Huge thanks to the incredible community members who reported this stranding right away and stepped up to help. Your care and teamwork gave this young whale a second chance.
