Municipal service level adjustments for the Thanksgiving long weekend
The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents of the following municipal program and service level adjustments for Thanksgiving Day on Monday, Oct. 13.
Solid waste collection and facility hours
There will be no garbage, organics or recyclables collection services on Monday, Oct. 13.
Curbside collection normally scheduled for Monday, Oct. 13, will instead occur on Saturday, Oct. 11. Residents are asked to place materials curbside prior to 7 a.m. on collection day to guarantee pickup, ensuring items are contained and secured from wildlife.
The Otter Lake Waste Management Facility and Materials Recovery Facility will be closed on Monday, Oct. 13, but will be open on Saturday, Oct. 11 for regular hours of operation.
The Household Special Waste Depot in Bayers Lake will be closed on Saturday, Oct. 11, but will be open on Saturday, Oct. 18 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
A mobile Household Special Waste Depot will be held on Saturday, Oct. 11, at Mic Mac Mall (21 Micmac Boulevard, Dartmouth) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Halifax Transit bus and ferry services
Halifax Transit buses and the Alderney Ferry will be operating on holiday schedules on Monday, Oct. 13. The Woodside Ferry will not be operating.
The first trip for Alderney Ferry service will depart Alderney Ferry Terminal at 7:30 a.m. and its last trip will depart Halifax Ferry Terminal at 11:45 p.m.

Recreation facilities, programs and services
Many municipally operated recreation facilities will be closed on Monday, Oct. 13, excluding the Sackville Sports Stadium. Residents are advised to contact their local recreation centre for operating hours and program information.
The last day of the summer/fall season for the Emera Oval is Sunday, Oct. 12. Free equipment rentals, including bikes, scooters and skateboards, remain available until that day. Residents are welcome to bring their own equipment to enjoy the concrete surface for biking, skateboarding, roller-skating/in-line skating until we begin our ice making operations. The municipality looks forward to welcoming residents back to the Emera Oval this winter, when the surface will be open for ice skating. Please check our website for information.
Customer Contact Centres
The 311 Contact Centre will be closed for full-service requests on Monday, Oct. 13. However, urgent calls can still be reported. Regular operations will resume on Tuesday, Oct. 14.
In-person Customer Service Centres will be closed on Monday, Oct. 13. Customer Service Centres will reopen with regular hours on Tuesday, Oct. 14.

Parking
Paid on-street parking will be free on Monday, Oct. 13. Residents are reminded to abide by all other posted signage and ensure they are not blocking intersections or sidewalks.
