12 Wing to Host Canadian Armed Forces SkyHawks Parachute Team Along with the Highway of Heroes Nova Scotia Tribute Ride
The Canadian Armed Forces Parachute Team, the SkyHawks, will parachute onto the 12 Wing Shearwater sports field on Saturday, August 16 at 11 a.m. This performance will be part of the 8th Annual Highway of Heroes Nova Scotia Tribute Ride, which is starting from the 12 Wing Sea King Club this year. Members of the public are invited to witness the free performance in honour of our Canadian veterans and those still serving in any capacity.
The SkyHawks thrilling performance of daring manoeuvres will see an airplane fly parachutists for a total of three passes. The parachutists will be in proximity to each other, a discipline known as Canopy Relative Work in the skydiving community and will be flying flags and releasing colourful smoke as they descend. Jumps will be performed at a maximum altitude of 6,000 feet and are subject to careful planning and close monitoring for everyone’s safety. The performance will only take place under favourable conditions.
The public may arrive anytime after 9 a.m. to attend the Highway of Heroes Nova Scotia Tribute Ride kick-off in advance of the SkyHawks performance at 11 a.m. Parking will be available at the Shearwater Fitness & Sports Centre and Shearwater Arena (30 and 66 Boundary Rd). The 25-minute performance will be followed by a meet-and-greet with the SkyHawks on-site near the Sea King Club.
Local emergency services will not be impacted by this event.
