Enhanced security measures coming to City Hall
The Halifax Regional Municipality is enhancing the security screening process for entering City Hall. Installation of an airport-style baggage X-ray machine and walk-through metal detector is currently underway at the front doors of the building and will be in operation starting Monday, Aug. 18.
These efforts aim to increase safety for employees in the building, as well as the many public visitors that attend Regional Council meetings or other meetings and events.
When the installation is complete, visitors will be required to remove any bags, as well as loose personal items in pockets, and place them in a bin for X-ray screening before proceeding to the walk-through metal detector to access the building.
It is recommended to plan ahead to avoid bringing unnecessary items.
These measures align with practices being taken in similar facilities within Nova Scotia, such as Province House, as well as other municipalities like the City of Ottawa.
