2025 Municipal Tree Giveaway Events
The Halifax Regional Municipality invites residents to two tree giveaway events, offering free trees to residents on Aug. 23 and 30, as part of the municipal Urban Forestry team’s efforts to promote natural areas and green infrastructure as outlined in the Urban Forest Management Plan and HalifACT.
This year, residents looking to pick up a tree must first register online by visiting: halifax.ca/treegiveaway
Registration will open at 9 a.m. on Aug. 15. No paper tickets will be issued; this event is fully paperless. Residents will receive a QR code to their email once they successfully register.
The giveaway is limited to one tree per person, or one tree per household. There are a variety of tree types available, including a limited number of edible fruit trees.

Time: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Location: 3800 Mackintosh Street, Halifax
You can walk, roll, cycle or take Halifax Transit to pick up your tree. Our Urban Forestry team will have totes available to help safely transport your new tree regardless of the transportation method you choose.
The tree you pick is yours to own and care for and will help contribute to our ever-growing municipal urban forest. This year’s Tree Giveaway will add up to 1,000 new trees to our canopy.
The benefits of a healthy urban forest include filtering air pollution, reducing storm runoff, removing atmospheric carbon, providing a habitat for migratory birds and urban wildlife and contributing to food security by planting edible fruit trees.
