Fire departments also save wildlife!
Last month we received a call about two baby owlets that had been orphaned in Oakhill. Sure enough, mom wasn't around, but there was problem - the babies were still in their nesting tree, hungry and waiting for help! Cheryl, the property owner, was able to find a huge ladder and we reached one of them, but the second owlet had moved further up the tree, beyond reach.
Challenge two was accepted, and Cheryl got in touch with a friend who is the retired fire chief of nearby Blockhouse, who in turn contacted the Oakhill fire department, and well, long story short there was a fire truck with a bucket, several volunteer firefighters, and two fire chiefs there in no time to help us retrieve the other baby! Both babies made it safely to Hope for Wildlife
The owls are growing, and they just moved into a new outdoor unit with some friends to enjoy some of the trees that were recently donated! How can we thank everyone enough? Donors, volunteers, and members of the community all contributing in some way to help our local wildlife...
... because they matter.
